Personal Narrative aka College Application Essay DRAFT 1  Printout is Due Today!


Today we will:

1. Complete Peer Evaluations for at least two peers!

2. Update your first draft as needed, suggested.

3. Turn in your Printout with the Peer Evaluations; staple your printout on the top!

4. If you finish before the end of the period, use the time to work on completing the text packet.  You'll be able to use this packet on the test Friday!  You'll also turn it in for credit.

 HW: Bring textbook.

We'll begin with two short selections from the textbook (plus a bit of background building information); after reading and brief discussion, partner up and work for 10 minutes on completing the web/map and the two column chart on pages 13 and 14 of the textbook handout.

Today we'll have the remaining presentations on Native American leaders past and present. Remember to take notes on your other packet for each group.  These notes will come in very handy when we have the open note quiz on these 16 Native American leaders next week!

Today we'll have three of the remaining presentations on Native American leaders past and present. Remember to take notes on your packet for each group.  These notes will come in very handy when we have the open note quiz on these 16 Native American leaders next week!

We will also be working on English Skills Development today in the blue media center lab. Complete the two assigned practice/quizzes you will find on your homepage.  10 points possible for each ("retakes" possible on these; ask me about it).






Welcome to English 11A!

During fall trimester, our first unit will be "In Harmony With Nature" (Part 1) and "First Encounters"(Part 2).  This unit includes various fiction, nonfiction, poetry from American history dating back to 2000 B.C. and up to A.D. 1620 (with some contemporary complementary pieces thrown in the mix).  Our second unit will be "Between Heaven and Hell" (Part 1) and "The Right to Be Free" (Part 2); this unit will include various writings by diverse Americans from 1620 to 1800!  Unit three will focus on "The Spirit of Individualism" including "Celebrations of Self (Part 1) and "The Dark Side of Individualism."  Each unit will include various activities to bolster skill in reading, comprehension, vocabulary, speaking, listening, composition,  grammar, and usage.  Additionally, during this trimester, we'll work with the classic novel The Scarlet Letter and the thought-provoking movie, Smoke Signals, during this trimester!

1. Housekeeping tasks: seating chart, textbook details, classroom basics.
