Our guest speaker is Mr. Paul Bierlein. Here is a brief biographical sketch summarizing a bit about him and his career field and areas of interest:
Paul A. Bierlein, M.Div., M.A. BCC
Paul Bierlein, served for 26 years as a Director at St. Luke’s Hospital in Toledo, Ohio and also coordinated their Ethical Consultation Team. More recently, he was a chaplain with Hospice of NW Ohio and served on their ethics committee. Mr. Bierlein’s approach emphasizes community outreach and education, frequently sharing seminars on stress management and whole person healthcare. He has also been involved with grief and loss issues helping to found NW Ohio HEALS, a community bereavement organization. Active in medical ethics issues, he has served both as board member and President of the Bioethics Network of Ohio and has taught medical ethics at Bowling Green State University while completing a special M.A. in Philosophy with a focus on ethics. Since “retiring,” he has done numerous presentations on end of life decisionmaking and advance directives. Among his other interests are clowning, woodworking, skiing, tennis, golf, singing, acting, computers and audio-visual media. Residing in Prior Lake, he and his late wife, Marlene, have two sons and four grandchildren.
